2017 Spring eNewsletter

February 17, 2017

Donald’s sense of optimism for the year ahead was contagious during his bell ringing speech. And that sense of positivity about the future is definitely going around. It is with great excitement that we share news about Chrysalis’ 5-year Strategic Plan for growth and double job outcomes in this year’s Spring 2017 Newsletter!

Setting goals is an essential part of the work between a Chrysalis client and their Employment Specialist. We practice this same strategy at the organizational level and are excited to announce that 2017 is the starting point on a road map that will take us on the journey to double job outcomes for our clients.

As we enter Chrysalis’ 33rd year, we are looking forward with hope and anticipation to what we can accomplish together. We believe that a steady job is a key step in a person’s transition out of poverty and onto a pathway to self-sufficiency. We also believe that all of our clients should have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of his or her past. These beliefs will continue to guide us during the next five years and beyond.

At this point in time, Los Angeles continues to face a homelessness crisis, with nearly 47,000 individuals across the County living without a permanent home. The task at hand, to help move the wave of change, seems monumental. Still, we know that a job can make all the difference in helping someone on their pathway out of poverty, and we have more than three decades of client successes that demonstrate that. We are committed to working toward a solution to this crisis and have set goals over the next five years to grow to meet the needs of our clients and to serve our community.

Over the last year, Chrysalis’ Board of Directors, staff members from all levels of the organization, and other stakeholders gathered together. They listened to the collective voices of our clients, looked at our outcome data in conjunction with the needs and opportunities of the community, and exchanged ideas and insights in order to create a new five-year strategic plan. This plan sets the direction and priorities for Chrysalis as we build on our proven experience in changing lives through jobs. We will ensure that our program continues to improve, is delivered equitably across our sites, and is strengthened by partnerships for supportive service delivery. Over the next few years, we hope to pass many monumental mile markers, but our ultimate destination will be to double our client job outcomes by 2021!

We have a lot to do to meet this goal of putting more than 3,000 men and women back to work each year. We are going to test and evaluate programmatic improvements to enhance outcomes across our three centers in downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Pacoima. We will also carefully consider expansion opportunities to help us serve more individuals in need. And we will invest wisely in the human resources and infrastructure we need to successfully scale up our impact and change more lives.

Thank you for supporting us throughout our first three decades and more than 55,000 lives changed. We can’t wait to share with you all the exciting news as we embark on turning this new plan into reality.

Map out your own route – try some FUNdraising

Trainer and co-owner of CycleTRaX, Michael Shenkman decided to host a memorial ride for his son. With support from his family and community, he brought together an event that raised more than $25,000 for Chrysalis using peer-to-peer fundraising platform, everydayhero.
