Butterfly Ball 2015
Behind-the-Scenes at the
14th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball
The 14thAnnual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball attracted more than 700 Hollywood luminaries to light up an unforgettable evening that would raise $1.4 million in effort to make an impact in the lives of homeless and low-income individuals in Los Angeles County.
As Spirit of Chrysalis honoree Will Packer described it, “There are a lot of events in Hollywood that are for show… but this one really means something and I’ve seen how Chrysalis truly benefits our community firsthand.” Fellow honorees Betsy Beers, who was introduced by actress Darby Stanchfield, and Michael Wright, who was introduced by actor Vince Vaughn, shared Packer’s sentiment adding their recognition of the impact that a job has on an individual’s sense of self-worth.
The outdoor event began with a red carpet and outdoor cocktail reception, followed by a sit-down dinner, awards ceremony and live music performances from Aloe Blacc and Maya Jupiter. This year’s Master of Ceremonies was Max Greenfield (New Girl), who brought special guest Kristen Bell on stage to help raise funds for Chrysalis. The actress, who provided the voice for Frozen’s Princess Anna, captivated the crowd with an impromptu rendition of “Do you want to build a snowman?”
Chrysalis clientCharles Johnson was also recognized at the event with the John Dillon Award. The college basketball player turned gang member brought down the house as he spoke to the crowd about his path to self-sufficiency. Chrysalis was proud to recognize his incredible journey and thankful to have the opportunity to share his story. Today, Charles has a full-time position with Skid Row Housing Trust and is grateful to have a life with a family and work that makes him feel valued. Charles ended his acceptance speech by thanking the crowd for making him feel like the basketball player that he had dreamed of becoming.
