2017 Butterfly Ball Honorees

common Common is a hip hop recording artist, actor, film producer, and poet. His first major-label album, Like Water for Chocolate, received widespread critical acclaim and tremendous commercial success. He won his first Grammy Award in 2003 for Best R&B Song for “Love of My Life” with Erykah Badu.

Common also received the 2015 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and the 2015 Academy Award for Best Original Song for his song “Glory,” from the 2014 film Selma in which he co-starred as Civil Rights Movement leader James Bevel. Common’s acting career also includes starring roles in the films American Gangster, Wanted, Terminator Salvation, Date Night, Just Wright, and Happy Feet Two.

 

Peter-Cramer

Peter Cramer is the President of Production for Universal Pictures. In his current capacity, Cramer oversees the day-to-day development and production of Universal’s live-action film slate. Some of the highlights from his 10+ years at the studio include the launch of the Pitch Perfect, Ride Along, Purge, Ted, and Neighbors franchises, as well as production of the highest-grossing film in Universal’s history, Jurassic World.

Cramer also oversees Universal Pictures’ Emerging Writers Fellowship, a unique and groundbreaking program created to identify and cultivate emerging writers with a passion for storytelling and screenwriting.
