27 members of Chrysalis’ Women’s Empowerment Program received makeovers helping them to look and feel confident on job interviews. The makeover night was the final step in an eight-week program that builds self-esteem and motivation.
“Women’s Empowerment provides a supportive setting where our clients can learn and be mentored by other women who have achieved success in the career world” says Piper Kamins, Site Director of Chrysalis Santa Monica.
The statistics are in for the first six months of the year. We continue to see record numbers of clients visiting our centers, a 40% increase from the same time period last year. But with the dedication of staff, volunteers and all our supporters, we are able to serve the many men and women seeking our services. > > CHANGE LIVES
CHRYSALIS CLIENT SUCCESS STORY:
After spending over 20 years in prison, Nicolas was unable to find employment. To survive, he would recycle bottles and cans. That’s when he came to Chrysalis in the San Fernando Valley.
Like most people who walk through the Chrysalis doors, Nicolas came in search of employment. He began to utilize all the Chrysalis resources: phones, printers, fax machines, and the computer. He created a resume with his Employment Specialist. If he saw an opening in the daily paper, he used the Chrysalis phone to call; if there was an opening he came across online, he asked someone to show him how to send an email.
After learning the skills necessary to land a job, Nicolas was hired at a large office supply store and has rediscovered what it is like to earn a paycheck. He recently received a Customer Service award from his employer for his great performance!
CHRYSALIS ENTERPRISES IN THE NEWS:
. . . Cirque Berzerk now has 150 people on payroll. This number includes 12 workers from downtown’s homeless population who will be helping with parking and janitorial duties, thanks to a partnership with charity organization Chrysalis Enterprises. Executive producer Berrent spearheaded the collaboration, explaining that, “basically, we wanted to run our business righteously, to be good neighbors and do our part to help the homeless problem.”
. . .After the 4th of July parade, I was walking through town and what a great sight: Chrysalis employees hard at work, cleaning up the trash in the streets and along the sidewalks. I later learned that Chrysalis also cleaned up the stadium at Palisades High following the fireworks show, providing a clean environment for the Pali Blues soccer game on Sunday. Whatever it cost to hire Chrysalis was money well spent by the parade committee.
