Chrysalis Recycling Keeps Venice Clean & Green

client photoLos Angeles City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, the Venice Neighborhood Council and Chrysalis Enterprises launched an innovative environmental partnership to promote recycling on the Venice Boardwalk.

Twelve new blue recycling bins were installed in the busiest parts of the boardwalk for maximum use and exposure. These public recycling bins are among the first in the city of Los Angeles, with Chrysalis Enterprise workers providing the day-to-day labor needs for the recycling project. The new bins divert tons of material from landfills, prevent litter from contaminating the Santa Monica Bay and create new “green collar” jobs for economically disadvantaged and homeless individuals.

“This project is great for the community, great for the environment, and great for the homeless,” Rosendahl said. “Venice Beach is the city's top tourist attraction, and I hope this program can be a model for the rest of the city.”

Chrysalis Client Success Story

BID photoLawrence's story is remarkable . With guidance and empowerment from Chrysalis, he was able to overcome years of homelessness and become self-sufficient by gaining steady employment.

But Lawrence's story doesn't end there. Once he was able to secure his situation with a stable job and place to live, he decided it was time to give back – especially to struggling youth – a group he once belonged to.

While keeping his full-time day job, Lawrence is pursuing his creative talents and helping youth in South Los Angeles learn about art and self-expression. He has been painting large murals on buildings throughout the city and encourages the local neighborhood kids to participate.
