Mission:
Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping economically
disadvantaged and homeless individuals become self-sufficient through
employment opportunities. Since our start in 1984, we have helped over 35,000 individuals
change their lives through jobs.
Sites:
Chrysalis' three main service centers are located where homelessness
and pockets of poverty are most pervasive: on Skid Row
in Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and in the Pacoima area of
the San Fernando Valley.
2009 Highlights:
We assist over 3,000 individuals each year through our employment programs and services.
Over 40% more people sought our services since the economic downturn. 400 clients a day received services at one of our three centers.
Last year, over 1,500 clients were successfully employed.
The average cost of our program is $2,000 per client /year – a fraction of the cost of similar government-sponsored employment programs.
On average, our clients make almost $10 an hour when they gain employment, considerably higher than California's $8 hourly minimum wage.
91% of funds raised went directly to client services .
Over 14,000 hours were volunteered to provide our clients with important aid in their job search and assistance with special events.
Creating Jobs:
Chrysalis Enterprises: Our social enterprise business unit creates transitional jobs as an effective stepping-stone to the working world: they deliver marketable experience and job skills and allows clients to rebuild confidence and develop good professional habits.
