Southern California Edison Offers $10,000 Grant to Santa Monica Nonprofit, Chrysalis

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jul. 20, 2006 - Southern California Edison (SCE) has bestowed a $10,000 grant to Chrysalis, a nonprofit organization in Santa Monica that helps homeless individuals transform their lives. As part of its fundamental commitment to the economic prosperity and overall quality of life in its service territory, SCE offers grants to support numerous community initiatives. For two consecutive years, SCE has aided Chrysalis in its efforts to eradicate poverty and homelessness in Southern California.

“Having the support of Southern California Edison makes it possible to do the benevolent works of getting homeless people off the street,” said Adlai Wertman, president and CEO, Chrysalis. “We appreciate SCE showing such great corporate citizenship.”

Chrysalis was founded in 1984 as a food and clothing distribution center serving homeless men and women living on the streets of Los Angeles' Skid Row. Currently there are three Chrysalis locations- Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Pacoima- to help homeless individuals survive, stabilize and become economically self-sufficient. Among other things Chrysalis offers emergency food, clothing, referrals long-term housing, medical clinics, and money management classes.

“Edison has been a partner of Santa Monica for over 100 years providing services for the people,” said Mayor Robert Holbrook. “We are proud of that relationship, and their support of Chrysalis is not only commendable, its remarkable.”
