(LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Oct. 2009) – On Tuesday Nov. 10th, Chrysalis will celebrate 25 years of helping more than 30,000 men and women in Los Angeles out of poverty and homelessness through employment opportunities. The non-profit foundation is especially proud to celebrate now: This year, due to the poor economy, there has been a 40% increase in the number of clients seeking their help over last year, yet Chrysalis has managed to serve them all and retain an 80% success rate.
Held at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica, the November 10 event will bring together corporate and community leaders who have made Chrysalis’ critical work possible at its centers in Santa Monica, Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
Some of the honorees include:
John Dillon-Founded Chrysalis on Skid Row in 1984 at 22 years old. Dillon is currently the first Vice President of Investments at Legg Mason in Bethesda, MD
The City of Los Angeles and Mayor Tom Bradley- Provided early support for Chrysalis and continues to actively support the organization
Karen Hallerman-Baker- Instrumental in creating Chrysalis Enterprises, the organization’s innovative business that provides thousands with transitional jobs. Appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger, Ms. Hallerman-Baker is the Executive Director of California Volunteers
The City of Santa Monica- Active for 15 years and continues to support Chrysalis’ progress in ending homelessness in the community
Martin Early- Has provided essential resources to the San Fernando Valley office since opening in 2000. At 80 years-old, Mr. Early continues to volunteer weekly with his wife Anne
Brad Rowe- One of the original founders of the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball, now in its 9th year
Alan Long- Former President, Sotheby’s International Realty, purchased and donated the Santa Monica building
The 25th Anniversary Celebration will feature a cocktail reception, live and silent auction and award ceremony, including a speech from Chrysalis founder, John Dillon. The event will raise much-needed funds for Chrysalis to serve the nearly 3,000 individuals seeking services this year – a record number in their 25 year history.
Chrysalis is the only nonprofit organization in Los Angeles Country exclusively dedicated to helping poor and homeless individuals become self-sufficient through employment. Founded in 1984, Chrysalis currently enables more than 2, 500 individuals a year change their lives through jobs.
Chrysalis Enterprises, a division of Chrysalis, offers quality services to businesses and government agencies throughout Los Angeles County while providing paths out of poverty for thousands of men and women every year.
