Chrysalis is ALWAYS looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to educate and empower our job-seeking clients! As a Chrysalis volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to personally motivate our clients through one of the most critical stages of their lives.
We need volunteers to:
Facilitate job preparation classes;
Help clients create resumes;
Conduct mock interviews;
Assist clients with computer use;
Organize our clothing room;
Help with special events and administrative work on occasion.

No experience is necessary, though we especially welcome individuals with a background in class facilitation, resume preparation, and/or interview skills.
The majority of volunteer opportunities are available during our business hours : Monday thru Thursday 8-4, and Friday 8-12 noon . Most of our volunteers commit 1 to 4 hours per week. We have open volunteer positions at all three of our offices in Downtown LA, Santa Monica, and Pacoima in the San Fernando Valley.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Joanna Schochet, Volunteer Coordinator, at (310) 401-9383 or Joanna.Schochet@changelives.org.
You can download a Volunteer Application Form here & email it back to Joanna at Joanna.Schochet@changelives.org

Chrysalis is thrilled to have the support and dedication of our volunteers. Jim Smith, a retired philosophy professor and a Chrysalis volunteer for over 10 years, teaches Job Prep skills at our Santa Monica location.
What keeps you coming back to Chrysalis after all these years?
I enjoy teaching. I love being in a room where people understand the subject, and I can tell them something about the subject. There are better and worse days, but I always feel like I'm doing something I enjoy that's worthwhile.
How has volunteering at Chrysalis affected you?
I was retired when I came to Chrysalis, so being back in a classroom is a very positive experience for me. I feel like I'm continuing with my life—that I haven't just dropped off.
Why should people volunteer?
It is an opportunity to use talents you might not have even known you had. In my case, teaching itself wasn't new, but coming in contact with these particular students made me rethink the way I approach the classroom while affecting people in a positive way.
Any other thoughts on volunteering?
Whatever you're doing professionally, it's important to do something that's not tied to a bottom line, not tied to your future or career to broaden your horizons. It's important to volunteer for something that stretches your own abilities and makes a contribution that's not tied to your own welfare.
