CHRYSALIS ON CNN
CNN profiled Tony Briones, a recently homeless Los Angeles man who had exhausted all his resources while looking for work.

In response to the original piece, Chrysalis volunteer Melissa Wolfe reached out to Tony and brought him to Chrysalis.

In this follow-up piece, CNN accompanies Tony to his first meeting at Chrysalis in downtown Los Angeles and documents his first step onto the path of self-sufficiency.

CIRQUE BERZERK PUTS HOMELESS BACK TO WORK:
Los Angeles’ only established circus troupe, Cirque Berzerk, a wild, sexy, alternative circus, makes its triumphant return to downtown LA for an exclusive engagement debuting June 18 running through August 30th. This year the circus has hired 12 CHRYSALIS ENTERPRISES workers to help with parking and maintenance at the event.  These formally homeless individuals are thrilled to be working and participating in this local event.  "Basically, we wanted to run the circus righteously, to be good neighbors and do our part to help the homeless problem down here" says Cirque Berzerk Executive Producer David Berrent.

FEELING BEAUTIFUL FROM THE INSIDE, OUT

Twenty-seven members of Chrysalis' Women's Empowerment Program received head to toe beauty makeovers at a Santa Monica salon helping them to look and feel confident on job interviews.

“Women's Empowerment provides a safe and supportive setting where women can celebrate their successes and look to other women who have become successful in the career world” says Piper Kamins, Coordinator of the Women's Empowerment Program and Site Director of Chrysalis' Santa Monica location.

The makeover night was the final step before the completion of this eight-week program. The program's purpose is to build self-esteem and motivate Chrysalis' female clients, the majority of whom are coming from places where few people have taken the time to listen to their dreams and goals.

CHRYSALIS WAS THE BENEFICIARY AT SILVER SPOON'S PRE-OSCAR EVENT.
CELEBRITIES GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND RAISE AWARNESS.

At a private house in the Hollywood Hills, celebrities visited an Oscar gift and hospitality suite and gave to Chrysalis. For a donation at the door, guests picked up a canvas Chrysalis-logo bag that they could fill with goodies.

TIME FOR CHANGE LIMITED EDITION WATCH COLLECTION TO BENEFIT CHRYSALIS.

Swiss watch manufacturer Ernst Benz introduces a limited edition collection “Time For Change” benefiting Chrysalis. Each unique watch is designed by a Chrysalis supporter: musical artist Mary J. Blige, producer/director Brett Ratner, actor Eric Dane; and hip hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons. The “Time For Change” Collection is sold exclusively through Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. A proceed of each watch sale will benefit Chrysalis.

BRETT RATNER
for
CHRYSALIS

“I have always been a watch collector and
I love philanthropic causes. This was a great way
to design something cool and still give back.
The film camera is the tool that inspired me,
and therefore the mechanisms of my watch
are similar to that of a motion picture camera.
Every time I glance at the watch it reminds me
of looking into the eyepiece when I'm filming.”

MARY J. BLIGE
for
CHRYSALIS

“I have been in the place where you just want a
glimmer of hope to shine on you and someone to offer
you a hand. Given the opportunity to support Chrysalis
was an honor to me. I wanted to bring light into
someone's world, and create a watch that would shine
bright, raising a lot of money and a lot of spirits.”

ERIC DANE
for
CHRYSALIS

“My watch mirrors my own sense of style,
which is pretty understated. Overall it looks
simple, but there are a lot of fine details that make
it complex. I wanted to create a cool watch that I
would feel good about wearing, while also knowing that
it is helping to make someone's life get a little bit better.”

RUSSELL SIMMONS
for
CHRYSALIS

“To me everything has a deeper meaning. I believe that we
are all here to serve a greater purpose, and help make this
world a better place for all of us not just for ourselves. Having
been involved with Chrysalis for many years, I couldn't pass on
the opportunity to design a watch that will help change peoples' lives.
I incorporated the seven chakras of spiritual energy that connect the
body and mind into the design - so anyone who buys it will feel good
and do good. That is what it is all about.”

CHRYSALIS ENTERPRISES LAUNCHES A RECYCLING PROGRAM TO KEEP VENICE BEACH CLEAN & PROVIDE "GREEN" TRANSITIONAL JOB OPPORTUNITIES

LA City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, the Venice Neighborhood Council & Chrysalis Enterprises have formed an innovative environmental partnership to install 12 new recycling bins on the Venice Boardwalk, the City's #1 tourist destination. Chrysalis Enterprises workers provide the day-to-day labor needs for the recycling project

These new blue recycling bins divert tons of material from landfills, prevent litter from contaminating the Santa Monica Bay & create new “green collar” jobs for economically disadvantaged & homeless individuals.

Chrysalis Enterprises collects 11 tons of recyclable material a month from these bins & other local recycling projects. That equals almost 700,000 soda cans or almost 400,000 bottles a month!
